2007: Angers, France

Impressions
This was, unquestionably, the best weekend of my 2007 European tour. My visit to Angers, France in the Loire Valley was largely spent in a friend's family owned Chateau with good food, great wine and even better company of friends. So, of course the people were nice and my rating below is decidedly biased :) What struck me most about the place was how well-preserved it was. The Chateau dates back to the 17th century, which makes it older than the free US. Digest that for a moment. Yes, we sat/slept on some really old furniture and used century old scraps to feed our BBQ grill. Suffice it to say, the Chateau has seen much history -- it was attacked during the French Revolution and parts of it have subsequently been rebuilt. Other than admiring every nook and cranny of this somewhat-of-a-relic, we kept ourselves busy ingesting several bottles of local wine, napping on the lawns, improving our game of 'Petanque' and most importantly, catching up on conversation.
