Impressions
I decided to make an overnight stop at Brugge en route to Paris from Amsterdam, having heard about this city from various sources (including a Belgian couple I met in Croatia a few weeks earlier). Brugge is a small town, a short hop away from Brussels or Antwerp, with a lot of character (and bustling with tourists). This was my first time in Belgium, so I also wanted to sample local chocolates and beer. The stores in this friendly city shut down early (like 6pm), so plan your shopping accordingly. The folks at the hostel suggested that I avoid the big chocolate stores and get my fix at grocery stores from local chocolate brands -- good advice! I did sample some beers as well, got a good night's sleep and tried a belgian waffle drenched in chocolate sauce for breakfast. Content, and ready to roll, I boarded the train to Paris (my next stop).
