Impressions
On this first trip to Paris, I stayed on Rue Mouffetard in Jardin des Plantes -- close to Saint Germain Des Pres, my favorite neighborhood in Paris. This was my first time, so, yes, I did all the touristy things -- Notre Dame, Saint Chappelle, walked along the river Seine, Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, eating at crepe stands, the customary trip to Versailles, you name it. Given my tight schedule, I didn't have time for much else, barring an occasional visit to Cafe Angelina for their famous hot chocolate and meeting with a friend of a friend (a local), who showed me around a fair bit (including Buddha Bar close to Place du la Concorde). What struck me most about this city was the abundance of compelling yet unassuming architecture spread throughout the city -- even random streets and corners sported statues that could easily be major landmarks in other cities. After four days, I took the night train to Barcelona, certain that I would return.
