Chapter 3, Before you cook II: Groceries, explores another common source of anxiety of many novice cooks. This chapter starts with a
discussion about grocery visits and the ten reasons that people typically overspend at grocery stores. The chapter then provides tangible ways
to save on your grocery bills and ends with a discussion on planning grocery visits. If you have ever been unsure about shopping for ingredients
at grocery stores, looking for ways to save money or better plan your grocery trips, this chapter is for you!
Chapter 4, Let’s get cooking, explains the actual cooking process with the beginner in mind. The chapter starts with a discussion of common cooking problems and talks about the three stages of cooking that work for almost every dish: prepping, cooking and assembly. The chapter explains each stage in depth and ends with a discussion of common beginner mistakes. Most of the recipes presented later in Part II of this book follow the guidelines provided in this chapter.
Part II |
I recommend reading the book in the order written for beginners and cooking enthusiasts alike. The chapters in Part I of the book will
introduce you to the world of cooking and dispel your myths, fears and anxieties about the cooking process as a whole. I recommend reading
Part I of the book in one sitting. Part II of the book is a collection of recipes and is intended to serve as a resource when you want to cook.
You’ll find the recipes in this section to be descriptive and easy to follow. As you read through and try these recipes, please keep in mind that
the collection of recipes presented here is merely meant to whet your appetite (literally!). After reading through this book and trying the recipes
provided here, my hope is that you will experiment with new ingredients, new cuisines and new styles to come up with interesting variations and
completely new recipes that you can call your own.
Enjoy the ride!
